For the third year in a row, Rollo joined the panel discussion with master's students in Software Engineering at the University of Antwerp, alongside industry peers from Verhaert and others.

Together we explored some of today's most pressing questions in tech. The one on every student's mind: does the industry still need newly graduated software engineers in the age of AI?

Our answer is clear: yes, absolutely.

At Rollo, we strongly believe that fresh graduates remain incredibly valuable. The software engineering skills you develop at university are essential for working effectively with AI tools, because ultimately, the final responsibility and quality control always remain with the professional behind the keyboard.

AI coding tools amplify the engineer; they do not replace the engineering. Someone still has to judge whether the generated architecture fits the problem, whether the edge cases are covered, whether the solution is safe to ship. That judgement is built on fundamentals.

A strong technical foundation matters more than ever. Thanks to the University of Antwerp for having us again.
